Strange, Stranger GazesIn the library
where books become wallsto peoplewhose looks resembletheir thoughts:of finishing homeworkand killing time,of learning aheadand spacing out.In this place, where silence and noisebecome idle sounds,my eyes are lostamong pages and spacesyou move around:between the shelves, behind the counter, beside me.But these walls keepits rule of silencemy eyes have to defy.I learn to speakyour language of gazes:those tug of wars, those hits and misses, those stolen glancesthat mock the silenceof this place. In the librarywhere walls avengethe foes of silence, our gazes are mutedlike words of pageshoused in this place. We do not belong here –and words are blindto the language of our eyes.
